Hello and Welcome to TwoWornShoes!
So, here it is, the very first post of TwoWornShoes website – travel blog, compendium of information, reference material, research, fun stuff, photos and more (maybe even some funny cat videos!).
My ambition for the site is that it is more than just another travel blog – My hope is that it develops into a community of people who are planning a journey, backpackers wanting to relive their adventures, and those armchair travellers who just want to kill some time instead of doing whatever work they need to be doing – thats where the funny cat videos come in…. (I’ll never get those hours back will I?)
Whats it all about?
So far I’ve been compiling and adding things that have interested me. Ideally though, you’ll tell me what you want to see, read and watch and I can develop it more in that direction.
In no particular order, here’s what you’ll find on the site:
Photography
I’m quite a visual person and have taken loads and loads of photographs – I find I get more from photos than words and besides, the internet is a visual medium, so i’ve put many of my favourite photos into various galleries that are listed on the Photography page.
Tourguide Vault
I spent some years working as a tour guide which gave me a deeper insight into the history and culture of the places I’ve visited, so my Tourguide Vault will have that information in it (along with the Destinations Page) its a work in progress – I have over a thousand printed pages worth of research to go through and edit. (luckily its in digital format!)
Inspiration
I’m always on the lookout for more inspiration for my travels whether books I’ve read, photos, memes, videos or the like, the best stuff I’ll share so if you’re short on ideas for your own travel, or just want to dream a bit, have a look at the Inspiration page.
Destinations
In the Destinations page you can see all the places that I’ve visited and written about. It’ll be forever expanding as I see more and convert my Guide Talks into actual material.
Resources
If you need to find links to helpful government information, visas, booking websites or packing lists just to name a few things – have a look at the Resources page.
What else for TwoWornShoes?
This whole enterprise does come with some caveats: I’m no writer! Far from it – I wish I could write with flair. In fact, I sometimes I feel like its a chore – you wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve written out a post, scraped it, started again, re-written it and then left it. I tend to write as I think, and believe me when I say my thinking is random and all over the shop – so my writing leans towards being messy!
It has been a fun process building what you see. It has been evolving for some time now while I scrap things that haven’t worked, and re-jigged other bits and pieces. I have this feeling that it’ll continue to evolve as I do, both as a writer, traveller and website owner. Admittedly, the site does look a little empty at the moment, I have lots of things in the works so it won’t stay this way for long.
Have a look at some photos, browse through the resources and read my about page to get more of an idea of what I’m all about and don’t forget to subscribe via email so you can receive updates as they happen.
I’ve been on the road for quite some time now, but this journey has just begun…
